The Brookfield Show Society presents its Brookfield & District Community Award each year to acknowledge an outstanding local individual.
Established in 2007, the award is announced at the Brookfield Show on the third weekend in May.
The 2012 award winner is Ashley Brown, chief steward at the Brookfield Show horticulture pavilion. Ashley’s parents, the late Oliver Brown and his mother Bernice, started the competition in 1975. Ashley has been running the competition himself since 2000 and is now joined by his son Jamie – the third generation of Browns at the Brookfield Show.
The selection panel gives regard to the nominee’s achievements in the year immediately prior to the receipt of the award, as well as his/her past achievements and ongoing contribution to the Brookfield & district community.
The key selection criteria are:
- demonstrated excellence in their field
- significant contribution to the Brookfield & district community
- an inspirational role model for the Brookfield & district community
- a local hero demonstrating a significant contribution at community level.
