23/10/2013 Annual general meeting
New faces and old hands will lead a rejuvenated Brookfield Show Society in 2013-14 following the annual general meeting on Monday 21 October. New vice presidents Jethro Warren and Tim Woodhouse are the new hands. They join three of our other existing office bearers who were also elected vice presidents- existing vice presidents Cameron Dart and Cathie Fullerton and outgoing show secretary Jenny Paratz. Newly-elected president Cameron Early told a large meeting in the Brookfield Hall that the show’s financial position had been jeopardised by a culture of free drinks for volunteers at the show bar but that the show’s finances were now stabilised. He paid tribute to re-elected treasurer Paul Rogers for his strong fiscal management in leading the recovery. Paul was re-elected unopposed. Cameron also noted the passing of show stalwart Daphne Dowdle, who died at 96 on October 20. Mrs Dowdle – ‘Daph’ to most people – was the backbone of the show’s cookery section and the cookery pavilion is named after her.Treasurer Paul reported to the meeting that his introduction as a first time treasurer in 2012 was a shock, when he realised that the show did not have the recommended reserve funds in the bank. He highlighted the lack of profit from the bar which had occurred over a number of years. He put this down to a lack of stock and cash controls and the culture of free drinks for volunteers. He noted that a new paid bar manager using proper stock and cash management had made a profit of about $7000 in two months. All chief stewards were reappointed.
23/03/2013 Norco Foods partners with 2013 show
Dairy-cooperative Norco Foods is teaming up with the 2013 Brookfield Show in a partnership based on shared appreciation of history and community. Norco Foods is part of the Norco Co-operative, and is fully-Australian owned by more than 160 dairy farmers based in northern New South Wales and south-east Queensland. Norco kicked off at Byron Bay in 1895 and just a couple of years later the show was born, when a bunch of locals formed the Brookfield Pullen Vale and Moggill Farmers’ Association. Norco will have a highly visible presence at the 2013 show on May 17-19. There’ll be a well-branded van full of Norco products from flavoured milk and water through to yoghurt and other vendors on the showground will also be using Norco product. For more information about Norco visit www.norco.com.au. Check out the partnership pic on Facebook.
