The Brookfield Show Society calendar includes four key annual events. We also run or participate in other community events. The annual events are:
The Brookfield Show, held at the Brookfield Showground on the third weekend in May. The 2013 show is Friday, 17 to Sunday, 19 May.
The show’s unofficial opening is the Thursday night before show weekend, where the art and craft areas reveal their winners at previews.
Show Friday is known as District Day because the horse events are limited to local riders, horses and owners. The action winds up in Sideshow Alley after school Friday afternoon with a rodeo and live music
in the Happy Hour Bar.
Show Saturday and Sunday see a full program of ring events, sideshow entertainment, with all pavilions open to visitors and judging of various competitions including horticulture, poultry, waterfowl, stud cattle and guinea pigs. The program includes fireworks Saturday and Sunday evening and live music Saturday night.
The Show Ball is a traditional black-tie country ball with live music and dancing on a Saturday night several weeks before the show. The 2013 Show Ball is on Saturday, May 4.
Brookfield Ute Muster
The Brookfield Ute Muster will be on Saturday 18 May 2013 at the Brookfield Show. Judging is at 11.00am and entries are accepted until 9.00am on the day.
The Bush Christmas is a free event held at the Brookfield Showground on a Friday in December. It includes free entertainment, food stalls, rides, fireworks and live music in the Happy Hour Bar.
The 2013 Bush Christmas is on Friday, 6 December.
Australia Day Bush Picnic
The Australia Day Bush Picnic is a relaxed, late afternoon event on January 26 at the Brookfield Showground. Locals enjoy traditional games, including a tug-of-war and quoits, and low-key entertainment usually includes a bush poet.
Happy Hour Bar
The Happy Hour Bar opens every Friday night at the Brookfield Showground from 5.30pm. Every first Friday of the month a live band entertains the crowd and the Brookfield State School P&C runs its burger bar.
